Why Voltage and Capacitance Are Not Enough for Capacitor Replacement

A reliable capacitor replacement must also match ripple current, ESR, temperature, dimensions, mounting and endurance.

Matching rated voltage and capacitance is only the starting point when replacing an aluminum electrolytic capacitor. Two parts with the same headline values can behave very differently in a real power circuit.
A replacement should also meet ripple-current demand, ESR or impedance limits, frequency conditions, case dimensions, terminal configuration, mounting pitch, ambient temperature and expected endurance. Surge voltage and cooling conditions may be equally important in inverters, UPS systems and industrial drives.
Before approving a cross-reference, compare the original datasheet with the actual application profile. Providing complete electrical and mechanical requirements helps prevent overheating, fit problems and reduced service life.
